Motorcycle Battery Pack (2024)

LAND Moto, Cleveland, Ohio

High Performance Electric Motorcycles

Conceptual Design, Thermal Analysis, DFM, Testing

EDL designed a high-performance battery pack for Land’s electric motorcycle, built around a custom aluminum extrusion with integrated cooling fins to maximize heat dissipation from the cell ends. The pack architecture incorporated a novel heat pipe and clamping system that actively redirected thermal energy from the cell cores to the top and bottom surfaces, ensuring balanced cooling under sustained load. The front endcap featured a precision alignment funnel and an IP67-rated blind mate connector, allowing users to swap packs without handling cables or connectors—streamlining usability while maintaining waterproof integrity.

The project also included multiple pack variants, each tuned for different performance envelopes. The design process was a deep integration of thermal management, mechanical engineering, and manufacturability—balancing extrusion constraints, sealing strategies, and assembly efficiency to deliver a robust, scalable solution.

Client Testimonial:

I highly recommend Tomek and the team he assembled at his Engineering Design Lab for any design challenge but particularly those tasks that require skills at the intersection of traditional engineering disciplines. Tomek genuinely loves his craft as an engineering designer, and that enables him to come up with creative solutions, backed by analysis. Additionally, with his detail-oriented side - he sees his designs through from prototyping, to EVT, DVT, PVT and all the way to mass production. Tomek quickly acclimatized himself with our team and its dynamic, and the nuances of the project. He worked in a flexible manner, integrated well with existing team and provided top notch engineering services on a day by day basis.
