DESIGN BRIEF
Tell us your WHAT and WHY
Alignment with our clients is our highest priority. We help you evaluate your options and develop a design brief to outline the core details and expectations of your product:
-
What problem are you trying to solve?
-
Why is solving it important to you?
We provide the HOW
Industrial Design provides a more optimistic way of looking at the future by reframing problems as opportunities. We will work closely with you to define your design brief and establish expectations around:

-
Human-centered research & investigation
-
Technological risk mitigation
-
Regulatory pathway analysis
-
Production process assessment
-
Intellectual property examination
-
Strategic product development planning

-
Ergonomic investigation
-
Feasibility assessment
-
Configuration design & optimization

At Engineering Design Lab, we work collaboratively as an integrated team of industrial designers, multidisciplinary engineers, and subject matter experts. Unlike other firms that focus primarily on concepts and aesthetics, we consider the practicality and lifecycle of your product from day one. Our goal is that your design is not just stylish and elegant, but also something that can be engineered, manufactured, and operated efficiently and cost-effectively in the real world.
Establish Design Direction
-
Figure out the big picture without getting lost in the details
-
Find solutions to problems that are yet to be solved
-
Create the framework for your project
-
Rapid lo-fi mock-up prototypes
PROTOTYPING
3.
Low Fidelity Prototypes
Prototypes serve to evaluate specific aspects of a concept. Early, low-fidelity prototypes can be made using 3D printing, wood, cardboard, clay, foam, or even LEGO - the key is rapid iteration to test your critical unknowns.

"Works-Like" prototypes help to test:
-
Ergonomics
-
Mechanical systems
-
Weight and balance
-
Scaled structural behaviour

"Looks-Like" to test
-
How visually intuitive is it for users?
-
What is the aesthetic appeal in the real world beyond sketches and renders?
-
How does color, material and finish (CMF) affect product perception in various environmental conditions?

Lo-fi prototyping is essential to validate and explore designs in the early stages to ensure whatever design we take through the entire product development process will be the most effective solution.
High Fidelity Prototypes
High fidelity prototypes are used to confirm all aspects of product design and performance, and help to prepare for production activities. These prototypes are more time-consuming and expensive requiring engineering expertise to create something much closer tot the final product. The goal of this stage is to validate full product functionality, confirm product lifecycle expectations, and verify the design against uncompromising real-world constraints.
